INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

EMBODIED THERAPY FOR TEENS (16+) & ADULTS

Embodiment is the source of change. It is the practice of bringing our awareness to unconscious and automatic patterns by actively attending to how these experiences are held in the body. I believe the body can speak for parts of our experiences we’re not yet aware of, parts we’ve been disconnected from, parts we’ve unconsciously inherited.

THE PROCESS

Through a somatic informed, body-centered approach, we don’t just talk about your story (and the many stories reinforcing your beliefs about yourself). We’re also paying attention to the sensations you feel in your body and all the ways you move and hold yourself. It’s often not enough to recall moments or memories of tension and distress or identify and express the emotions associated. For resolution, especially of trauma, we’re looking to understand and change what’s happening in the body. We begin by noticing the stuff showing up automatically and unconsciously. We’re looking for limiting patterns - the ones that keep you stuck, while also understanding these patterns likely formed as an attempt to cope with pain and discomfort.

WHAT I SPECIALIZE IN

I specialize in trauma, which can be the experience of a traumatic event, oppression, and/or attachment disruption in early relationships. It can also be intergenerational and inherited, especially in communities with a history of colonization and oppression. This can end up looking like many things including: anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, difficulty concentrating and focusing, feeling disconnected, and not feeling safe in your body, relationships and in the world. I know from my own experience how this has its own unique unfolding and I’ve come to believe we all hold the wisdom we’re in need of - we sometimes just need support connecting with it.

MY APPROACH

I’m trained in body-based Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (Level 1 & Level 2), certified in Trauma-Focused CBT, as well I’m currently learning and working more with parts (Internal Family Systems). I weave these together with other approaches and collaborate with you around how to make therapy meaningful. My work is led by understanding that how we feel in our bodies, our hearts, our minds and our spirit, intersects with systems of power and oppression, culture, where we come from and how we identify and express ourselves within our lived experience. I’m actively working to provide therapy grounded in an anti-racist and anti-oppressive feminist approach that is LGBTQ+ affirming. I welcome thoughts or questions about how I come to this work and our relationship to one another in it.

LET’S CONNECT
